Part 13: The Blood

1. The significance of blood.
   1. There is no forgiveness without the shedding of blood. Heb. 9:22
   2. The life is in the blood. Gen. 9:4, Leviticus 17:11
2. The Old Covenant and sanctuary. Hebrews 9:16-22
   1. Death was required to put into effect the first covenant: Animals died in place of people.
   2. Moses sprinkled everything with blood. Ex. 24:8
   3. The source of this lifeblood was animals.
   4. The result: It could never take away sins, thus having to be offered over and over.
3. The New Covenant and sanctuary. Hebrews 9:23-28
   1. Death was required to put into effect the Final Covenant: Jesus died in place of people.
   2. Jesus sprinkled everything in heaven, the real sanctuary! Heb. 9:23-24
   3. The source of this lifeblood was the second Adam, the perfect God-Man: Jesus Christ. Heb. 9:25-26
4. The result: APPLICATION
   1. PAST: He appeared in the past to die in our place, providing the eternal life-blood to take away sin. Heb. 9:26b
   2. PRESENT: He appears now in heaven to pray for us. Heb. 9:24 (7:25)
   3. FUTURE: He will appear again to bring salvation. Hebrews 9:27-28 (Isaiah 53:12)
      1. Completing our transformation.
      2. Restoring and ruling over creation.
